FAQ
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a very safe, comfortable and deeply beneficial process which allows access to the subconscious mind to change patterns of behaviour and ways of thinking and feeling that are no longer supporting you.
Hypnosis is a lot like day-dreaming in that it produces an altered state of consciousness while your mind and body feel deeply relaxed. However, just like when you daydream you remain aware of everything that is occurring around you. You are just relaxing to a point where you can shut off your conscious ‘monkey’ mind to access the subconscious.
Why is hypnotherapy used?
In hypnosis, we can effectively work through the issues (old beliefs) that will rapidly come to the surface for you to process and understand. You can then begin to heal and rewire new, more beneficial, healthy beliefs and patterns.
How many sessions will I need?
Very often, understanding and freedom around any issue that has been holding you back is available at the end of just one session. However, as we are all unique and it is impossible to know the full extent of the limited beliefs before the session an additional 1-2 sessions may be required. We can reassess this after the 1st session.
Occasionally depending on the issue (sometimes in the case of anxiety and depression) more may be needed.
What is the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind?
Essentially the mind is made up of two parts:
1. The conscious mind
2. The subconscious mind
The conscious mind is what we use when we are awake and alert. We use it to reason and make decisions.
The subconscious mind is where we store all our memories, experiences and thoughts. Based on our experience we develop meaning (that as a child is always about ourselves) and this meaning creates certain beliefs about ourselves and our reality which subsequently affect how we think, feel and act.
These belief patterns may have developed at any time and although the conscious mind recognises that the behaviour or belief is no longer working for us, the subconscious mind is unaware of this and needs to be re-programmed and re-empowered.
Will I be under your control during hypnosis?
No. While you are under hypnosis you will always be completely aware of what is going on around you. Some people are concerned that they may lose control or consciousness and not be able to remember anything. This is never the case and at any time during the session you can come out of the hypnosis and open your eyes (just as you might snap out of a daydream).
How will I feel during and after my session?
During your session, you will feel relaxed and comfortable. Hypnosis is a natural state that you experience in your day to day life so it won’t feel unfamiliar. As each person is unique your experience is too. Most feel refreshed and lighter after a session with a sense of reflection and wonder. However, sometimes the processing continues and you may feel tired and in need of quiet time. You will always leave with more understanding, freedom and empowerment.
Is online delivery (via Zoom) effective?
Yes. Given you have your eyes closed for the majority of the session it makes little difference to your experience & the convenience & comfort of being in your own home is an advantage to you. It is important that I can see you to observe & facilitate your session effectively. Zoom is used for online meetings, it’s a free, very easy platform to use & all the details are sent through to you. You can use a smart phone, tablet or computer, you need a quiet place in which you feel comfortable & will be uninterrupted. The results do not differ between face to face & online sessions.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Everyone can be hypnotised. As long as you wish to enter hypnosis, you will. It’s an easy, enjoyable and thoroughly relaxing process. Hypnosis is based on science. RTT can literally reprogram who we are on a cellular level, break unwanted habits and achieve extraordinary results in all areas of your life.
What if I uncover something I don’t want to share?
You are in complete control during hypnosis and if you don’t wish to share something, you can stop yourself doing so as you would in any conversation. It’s ok to keep details to yourself, I can still help you as long as you can tell me how the unnamed details affect you (i.e. how they make you feel).
What if I think I already know the reasons behind my issue?
What makes RTT incredibly effective is that even if you think you know the reason, you see it in a brand new light. That’s what allows you to change the meaning and ultimately, change your beliefs. Many clients go back to scenes that are totally different than what they expected. Just relax and trust that your subconscious mind will show you exactly what you need to see.
What if I go back to scenes that are painful or scary?
If you go back to scenes from your life that are related to things like sexual or physical abuse, or other trauma, it’s important to remember that you are not reliving that scene, you are simply reviewing it and that you are safe. We will create a safe space for you to review these scenes so you can begin to heal.
